At least that’s what LinkedIn wants me to think. Despite LinkedIn, I do feel that there is some level of it. While there is a lot of talk about AI and its impact, and most of what I see for PMs is about using agents to scale yourself - so your “impact” can be bigger across the discovery, writing, planning, and stakeholder work that fills a PM’s week.

Cognitive Outsourcing - The Calculator Problem

In my previous post, I’ve been working out why Gemini at work leaves me worse off while Claude at home leaves me sharper. I think I’ve hit the root cause of this. The “metabolising” occurs more “upstream” with Claude than Gemini, where it happens “downstream” at contact with the stakeholders.

This reminds me of the calculator analogy. Using a calculator won’t get you better at mathematics. But being already good at mathematics will help you get more out of the calculator. AI feels the same way to me, and I am convinced, like many of my peers on LinkedIn, that experience and expertise matter more now than ever. The axiom of Garbage In Garbage Out holds true even now.

Cognitive Outsourcing

I have been using Claude for my personal life. I am yet to use it to automate my life, like what every other person on LinkedIn is boasting about.
But I am actively using the Project mode, specifically where a Claude project has been set up as a PM career coach to think through what the next phase of my professional career would be like, be it in my current workplace or another place.

New World

It’s a new world we are now living in.
Writing this post to test my new CI pipeline with Codeberg and Hetzner VPS.
This took a whole of 45 minutes, using Claude, which assisted me through the entire process of setting up my domain, VPS, website using Hugo and managing the website as a repo using Codeberg.
Writing blogs in markdown is a low-key way of staying in touch with the engineer in me, who has been very dormant for a while.
The prospects of doing things the AI-assisted way are exciting, but I have to say, I don’t believe I have mastered how to build a dev pipeline.
I merely followed instructions spat out by Claude.
I don’t even know how Hugo works, the pros and cons. I merely did what Claude recommended me to do.
I suppose that’s the risk; something I’ve sensed all this while - AI will augment my existing expertise, but it won’t make a noob an expert.
